(BCN) -- San Mateo County has released the names of the candidates qualified to serve as the next sheriff after the Board of Supervisors decided to fill the vacancy caused by the firing of former Sheriff Christina Corpus through a long-term appointment.
Seven candidates, each with decades of local law enforcement experience, have passed the first round of screening.
The candidates are Gilroy Interim Police Chief Kenneth Binder, City Manager of Hillsborough John Doug Davis, former Assistant Chief of the San Francisco Police Department David Lazar, Capt. Kevin Lee of SFPD, Solano Community College District Police Chief Brian Wynn Huynh Travis, Sgt. David Weidner of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, and former SFPD Capt. Robert Yick.
