With the start of a new month, we are starting to see some relief from recent rainfall across the area for the first drought update in November.
The latest drought monitor for ENC shows most of the severe drought slowly diminishing, except for parts of Edgecombe, Nash, and Wilson counties. The rest of the WITN viewing area is either highlighted in a moderate or abnormally dry condition as of Thursday, November 6th.
With the rain we saw at the end of October, which helped the ongoing drought, we did see improvements for the fire and fall crops. The fall foliage also began to show signs of color on the trees, as cooler air and equal daylight hours play an important part at this time of year.
Last week’s update showed most of the area in severe drought, with the same areas in the moderate
