GRAND MARAIS, Minn. — A northern Minnesota angler pulled something out of Lake Superior last weekend, but it wasn't what you'd think.
Instead of bringing home a fish, Chris Carlson did something far more impactful - he saved a life.
Carlson was fishing on Grand Marais Harbor Sunday when he saw a group of three people walking on a pier toward a lighthouse. The lake was rough, with howling southeast winds pushing waves up and over that pier. Carlson yelled for the people to stop their trek, but the winds and waves were too loud for them to hear.
At that point, a massive wave struck the walkway and seconds later, Carlson saw two people standing. The third had been swept into the turbulent lake.
