An evolutionary trait that made homo sapiens a dominant species in the world was an ability to make and use tools. And new research by an international team, including a Lakehead University professor, shows an evolutionary relative to humans may have had similar dexterity.
"What's fascinating about it is that it's showing the experimentation if you will," said Lakehead University anthropology Prof. Matt Tocheri.
"Even though we've known about it for many decades, the importance of the discovery of Paranthropus is it is showing that our way of evolution to be human was not the only way. There were other ways nature was experimenting with."
