Flagstaff resident Jay Mercado, known professionally as IIWAA, is an award-winning recording artist, performer and songwriter specializing in a vintage soul sound that can be considered few and far between in the local music scene.

However, that vintage soul label doesn't restrict IIWAA's sound -- he explained that much of his music defies categorization and blends sounds, like bringing together dance music elements with rap.
