A red flag warning will be in effect until 5 p.m. Thursday across parts of Boulder County as wind gusts are expected to reach as high as 55 mph. The warning went into effect at 7:21 a.m.
Only parts of Boulder County at elevations below 6,000 feet are under the warning, which means that any wildfire that might spark would be more likely to spread rapidly because of weather conditions, according to the National Weather Service. A combination of strong winds and low relative humidity prompted the warning, the NWS said in its warning. Open burning is not allowed, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
The NWS and Boulder Fire-Rescue warn that uncontrolled burns could spread rapidly, according to a Boulder fire social media post.
Winds between 25 mph and 35 mph, with gusts up to 5
