QUEBEC — Health Minister Christian Dubé is responsible for twice scuttling a salary agreement with the province’s medical specialists and should be replaced for future talks, says Lucien Bouchard.

In an interview with La Presse, the former premier, who now acts as the chief negotiator for the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ), made a series of revelations on the last few months of failed talks between the Legault government and the specialists.

According to Bouchard, the FMSQ and the government came close to an agreement twice: once in mid-August and later during the October mediation sessions.

But on both occasions, the government made an “incredible about face,” at the last minute, Bouchard said.

“They came back to us Aug. 14 saying, ‘We have nothing to propose,'”
