Colston Loveland might be a rookie, but he sure doesn't play like one.
In Week 9, Loveland showed just how dangerous he is despite his youth, recording his best performance yet in multiple statistical categories. He posted new career-highs with six receptions, 118 yards, and two touchdowns as he helped lead the Chicago Bears to a 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. For the performance, he was named the Week 9 NFC Offensive Player of the Week by the NFL.
Loveland didn't just have a big game, but helped secure the game with one of his scores, etching his name into NFL history in the process. The Michigan alum recorded a 58-yard touchdown reception to win the game for the Bears with 17 seconds to play. His reception marks the second-longest game-winning touchdown reception by a rookie tight end in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime since 1970. It is also the third-longest game-winning touchdown reception by any NFL rookie in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter or in overtime since 1970.
Loveland is also now just the fifth rookie tight end in the Super Bowl era to record at least 100 receiving yards and multiple touchdown receptions in a game. He has earned his first-career Offensive Player of the Week award with the accolade. He is now just the third rookie tight end in NFL history to win an Offensive Player of the Week award and the third Bears rookie to win an Offensive Player of the Week award.
