A cull at a B.C. ostrich farm will go ahead, after the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed the farm’s last-resort appeal, it was announced Thursday.

Universal Ostrich Farm had asked the Supreme Court to overturn an August 2025 decision by the lower Federal Court. That decision said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency had “acted reasonably and in a procedurally fair manner” when it said it would need to cull the farm’s nearly 400 birds in an effort to stamp out the highly contagious avian flu.

With the Supreme Court’s decision, owners at the ostrich farm will have exhausted all possible legal options to stop the cull.
