PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A person has been arrested a year and a half after a 20-year-old woman was found shot in her car in a ditch off the Capital Beltway.

Dominec Proctor, 28, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is in Virginia being held with no bond on unrelated charges.

In May 2024, Nyah Hairston was found in a gray Nissan Versa just before 11 p.m. in a ditch before Landover Road in Hyattsville. State troopers had to break the windows in to pull Hairston out of the front seat. When they got her out of the car, they realized she had been shot.

She was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Regional Trauma Center, but she died from her injuries.
