A volunteer at Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions in Las Vegas arrived one morning to discover a crate with a cat inside, money and a note, but what it said broke people's hearts.

Kimberly Wade, a consultant in marketing and operations for the cat rescue, told Newsweek via email that this Scottish Fold cat arrived at Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions on October 28. That same day, the rescue shared the discovery on its Instagram account, @homewardboundcats, explaining that the volunteer found him at 5:30 a.m., along with a blanket, a small plate of salmon and shrimp, $60 and a note.

The note read: "He's a good cat; we just have to move. He cost $3,000! Please give to nice family. He's had all his shots annually and he has been neutered. Doesn't get along with other cats usually. Chronic UTIs."
