LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department unveiled one of 11 new Tesla Cybertrucks on FOX5 Thursday, with the vehicles set to begin patrol operations next week.
Officer Robert Wicks said the privately donated vehicles allow the department to advance its technological capabilities without using taxpayer funds.
“This is the sheriff’s vision. It’s always been to be the most technologically advanced department in the country, if not the world,” Wicks said. “Not a single penny came out of tax funds for this.”
The vehicles require special certification for officers to operate due to differences from traditional patrol cars, including turn radius and speed capabilities. Officers must complete a course through the department’s Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) p
