SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – A $3 million project aimed at transforming an Upper Peninsula snowmobile racetrack into a year-round events hub is nearly complete.

Officials have earmarked Nov. 21 as the completion date for renovations at the I-500 track in Sault Ste. Marie, according to a YouTube video by the local visitors bureau.

The track is home to the International 500 Snowmobile Race , which attracts riders from across North America and brings millions of dollars in tourism to the Sault area each winter. It’s the world’s largest single-day snowmobile race .

“We’re going through a giant change here at the I-500 venue,” said Ric Federau in a recent video posted on Facebook . “This is all just a wonderful change here at the I-500.”
