LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Video of the UPS crash site released by the Mayor’s Office revealed piles of twisted and blackened metal.
The crashing jet wiped out power lines as it hit structures and vehicles on the ground. The fireball that followed blasted and consumed everything it touched, complicating recovery efforts.
On Thursday morning, officials could not say for certain if all bodies had been recovered from the scene.
“There’s so much debris there,” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said. “There’s so much charred, mangled metal that not all of the bodies may have been located until you look under these certain things. And so that is going through the various layers of debris.”
Greenberg described a process of “de-layering” as teams deconstruct twisted debris in search of victims.
