HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Thousands of Nebraska families could see their health insurance costs double by January as enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies are set to expire December 31.
The enhanced tax credits help low- and moderate-income individuals afford marketplace health insurance. Congress didn’t renew them over the summer in the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act,’ making them a key issue in current shutdown talks.
Impact on Nebraska residents
About 130,000 to 140,000 Nebraskans get their coverage through the ACA marketplace, according to Jeremy Nordquist, president of the Nebraska Hospital Association.
“A lot of people are going to see probably about a doubling of what they were paying for health insurance in this marketplace exchange,” Nordquist said.
