Shutdown Standoff Over Healthcare

Thursday marks the 37th day of the now longest government shutdown in United States history, with thousands of Nebraska families potentially seeing their health insurance costs double by January.

The federal government currently subsidizes some of the cost of Affordable Care Act health plans, but some of that stops in January and is not scheduled to be renewed. Democrats in the Senate want these credits, which were not renewed over the summer, to be placed into the next spending package and say they won’t vote for anything that doesn’t include it.
