A 3-year-old boy is recovering after sustaining severe burns when a tabletop fireplace malfunctioned.

The incident occurred inside a home in Morgan Hill, Calif., on Oct. 4, according to The Mercury News .

Sebastian Reynoso reportedly was preparing to make s’mores with his uncle and cousins when the tabletop fireplace burst into flames, some of which escaped the two glass walls surrounding the device.
