A magical season has come to an end for the Marlington High School volleyball team . The Dukes fell to Buckeye Valley 3-1 in an OHSAA Division IV state semifinal match at Wright State University on Thursday afternoon. Buckeye Valley won 25-20, 14-25, 25-18, 25-16.
The match was even early on. The Dukes evened it at 1-1 with a win in the second set that saw Marlington go on scoring runs of 5-0 and 6-0 on the way to a 25-14 win. The Barons managed to respond and built early advantages in the third and fourth sets to pull away with the victory.
Marlington got a strong performance from Danica Sarchione. She was credited with 23.5 points, 22 kills and a match-high 18 digs. Giana Bogunovich added 11 points and 10 kills for the Dukes. Cali Young had 38 assists and 14 digs for Marlington.
