Jamaican native Rohan Thompson says the people in his island country are in a “desperate” situation after the wreckage caused by Hurricane Melissa.
Thompson, who works in Niagara-on-the-Lake and is from the parish of St. Elizabeth, can’t sleep and is in perpetual anxiety as he and his co-workers seek updates about their family members back home.
Another Jamaican resident, Chris Campbell, whose 10-year-old son is waiting for life-saving heart surgery on the island, lost the roof of his house and all of the family belongings in their rural community during what was described as the worst storm to hit the country. Campbell returned to Jamaica a few days ago on one of the first flights into the reopened Sangster Airport in Montego Bay, ready to help his family and rebuild his life.
