Planning for the future of Welland hospital for both the short- and long-term can now proceed after the provincial government announced funding for the Niagara Health site.
The hospital system said Thursday, the province has approved renovations required at the Third Street hospital to prepare it for the opening of the south Niagara Falls hospital in 2028.
Also approved was a planning grant for redevelopment of the Welland site.
A news release from Niagara Health did not include dollar amounts for either project. A spokesperson said more details will be released during a news conference at an unspecified date.
