The Seattle School Board unanimously voted to select Benjamin Shuldiner as Seattle Public Schools’ new superintendent Wednesday evening.
Wednesday’s vote authorized the beginning of contract negotiations to finalize the hire, which will also determine when Shuldiner officially takes the helm of the state’s largest school district. School Board President Gina Topp said Wednesday it is likely he will begin sometime in early 2026.
“I’d like to believe I’ve found my permanent home,” Shuldiner said at Wednesday’s School Board meeting. “I believe our goal today is to make Seattle the single greatest urban school district in America.”
Shuldiner, 48, is currently the superintendent of the Lansing School District in Michigan. He’s served the district, with just over 10,000 students, since 2021.
