BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A new judge has been assigned to preside over the December trial of Casen Carver.

Earlier this week, District Court Judge Brad Myers recused Judge Gail Horne Ray from presiding over the trial after the family of Madison Brooks expressed concerns about Ray’s impartiality.

It was announced in court on Thursday, Nov. 6, that the case has been given to Fred Crifasi, pending the appeal’s results.

The case has been put on hold until the result of Ray’s appeal to the First Circuit. The appeal is due by Dec. 5, unless an extension is granted. Carver’s lawyer told WAFB he intends to appeal the decision that removed Judge Ray from the case.
