KALAMAZOO, MI –– A slice of Shibam is coming to the outskirts of Western Michigan University’s campus.
Located at 2632 W. Michigan Ave. inside the Campus Pointe Plaza, Shibam Coffee has its sights set on opening in mid-to-late November, offering a selection of Yemeni coffee and a place to connect for the Kalamazoo community.
The name is derived from the ancient city of Shibam, in Yemen, known for its mud-brick skyscrapers.
Influence from the city itself can be seen throughout the interior, as the mud-brick skyscrapers act as a backdrop to the booths inside.
Shibam Coffee originated in Dearborn in 2022.
Since then, it has rapidly expanded throughout the country with four in the Detroit area, two in Chicago and more locations opened or opening in Ohio, Arizona, Texas and Georgia.
