Police believe a man who was gunned down in a daylight attack was killed by organised crime figures who travelled interstate to carry out the hit.
Athan Boursinos, 21, was fatally shot beside his car in a laneway behind a property at Wollert, in Melbourne's north, on July 31.
Victoria Police acting Detective Superintendent Mark Hatt said information obtained by investigators suggested the killing was sanctioned by an interstate organised crime syndicate.
"Intelligence leads us to believe these men travelled down from NSW prior to Athan's murder, which suggests this is a murder linked to organised crime entities based in that state," he said.
"We are still working to establish the possible motive, although we have several lines of enquiry under way."
