SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. —
California voters approved Proposition 50 , temporarily redrawing congressional districts, but some residents in areas that rejected the measure are worried about losing their Republican representation.
Results as of Thursday, showed more than 5 million people voted in favor, while roughly three million voted against it, with 77% of the vote counted.
The new district maps have left some feeling disappointed, particularly in the current District 1, which is primarily Republican and runs from Sutter County north to the Oregon state line. Every county in District 1, except Nevada County, rejected Prop 50.
With the new maps, District 1 will now stretch west to Ukiah and south into the liberal North Bay, turning the district primarily Democratic.
