PROVO — A 35-year-old man is dead after being hit by a train on Thursday near 600 S. Freedom Boulevard in Provo.
Janna-Lee Holland, a spokeswoman for the Provo Police Department, said the incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday.
Freedom Boulevard was closed for over two hours while investigators worked the scene, but Holland said at 1 p.m. that the department was close to reopening it.
The circumstances surrounding the man's death are still under investigation.
"It's hard to say if it was just a lack of attention or if it was a suicide attempt. There's nothing to suggest it was suicide. But, you know, you never know," Holland said. "He literally just went around the barrier and went across (the tracks) and just didn't quite make it in time."
