From a third-string quarterback to the face of the franchise, it was clear Brock Purdy‘s days of being a backup were over when the 49ers signed him to a five-year, $265 million contract extension over the offseason.

But 49ers general manager John Lynch explained that Purdy could once again come off the bench as he continues his recovery from a turf toe injury.

“If he’s healthy,” Lynch said Thursday morning on KNBR’s “Murph & Markus” when asked if Purdy coming off the bench behind Mac Jones could be a possibility. “Everything is predicated on the health, and if we felt that was the next step in allowing him to get healthy.
