The concept of "democratic norms" is something we've been hearing a lot about over the last decade, and especially since President Donald Trump began his second term in January. That's democratic with a little D — as in the established procedures, rules, and expectations for how American government operates.
The president's critics routinely point to examples of things he has said or done they believe break with those democratic norms and steer us towards something more akin to autocracy instead. From ICE raids, to National Guard deployments, to the use of executive orders in lieu of Congressional action, there is no question the administration pushes boundaries. To some, it's too much too often and leads them to check out entirely.
