AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The University Interscholastic League (UIL) reported that it is aware of a situation at Amarillo High School regarding an ineligible football player. The UIL said that it has been in contact with AHS, and the matter is being addressed.

The eligibility of this player can decide the future for the Sandies in the upcoming playoffs.

According to the UIL website, several rules can render a football player ineligible, with the most common being the student transferring to a new school for athletic purposes. When a student transfers, they are presumed ineligible for one calendar year unless they can prove the move was not for athletic reasons.
