Ahead of a big-time rivalry game with district and playoff seeding implications, Amarillo ISD released a statement regarding an Amarillo High football player who has an "eligibility issue."
“We are aware of an Amarillo High football player with an eligibility issue and are working with the UIL to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. We will provide an update when more information becomes available," the school district said in an email Thursday afternoon.
The Sandies are set to take on Tascosa at Dick Bivins Stadium on Friday night in an important contest for both teams. Aside from the historic rivalry between the Sandies and Rebels, each squad sits at 4-1 in District 2-5A Division I competition.
