OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Patrick Leahy announced his campaign for the Nebraska Legislature’s 6th District on Wednesday.

“Nebraska is facing many challenges -- from workforce shortages in nearly every sector, to high property taxes, to rising costs on everyday necessities like housing and childcare, and groceries,” said Leahy. “I am running to tackle these issues head on and unapologetically represent hardworking families and small businesses in District 6.”

Leahy has a history in public service and previously worked for former U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson and is currently the CEO of First Star Recycling.

He is also a Major in the U.S. Army Reserves.

The current representative, Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh is term-limited and unable to run for reelection in 2026.
