MADISON, Wis. -- Luke Fickell will continue as Wisconsin's head football coach, despite a season that has failed to live up to expectations.

UW Athletic Director Chris McIntosh said Thursday that Fickell will stay in his role for the 2026 season. The move comes after multiple blowout losses where the Badgers never looked a threat.

Fickell was brought in after the 2022 season to replace Paul Chryst, who had been fired mid-season. The move was a surprise, as many fans expected then-interim head coach and former defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard to get the top job.

Seen as a slam-dunk hire at the time, Fickell was coming off a stellar 2021 season where he coached Cincinnati to an undefeated regular season and a College Football Playoff berth.
