Traffic was backed up in the Monteagle area due to a rockslide that occurred two days ago.
"Part of the rock face broke free, fell onto the roadside, and bounced into the road covering all three lanes,” said Adam Casteel, Director of Operations for TDOT, Region 2.
This rock slide closed traffic on 1-24 west near mile marker 137 near Monteagle on Tuesday.
Crews were able to clean up most of the rockslide, and two lanes are back open, but there is still much to do.
"We brought some barrier rail out to keep one lane; the right lane of traffic is closed. We opened up two lanes of traffic. We kept somebody on site all night, overnight, to monitor just in case something else was to happen. Nothing did,” said Casteel.
Over the next few days, one lane will remain closed as construction crews
