WASHINGTON — Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport flights were facing almost 2-hour ground delays on Thursday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The delays come as DCA and about 40 other U.S. airports prepare for a reduction in air traffic due to the ongoing government shutdown, with U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy citing growing fatigue among air traffic controllers who have been working without pay since Oct. 1.
A ground delay was first issued at 12:57 p.m. and was scheduled to last until midnight, according to the FAA's "National Airspace System Status" webpage. The exact average time of the delays was 1 hour 55 minutes, as of Thursday afternoon.
