RALEIGH, N.C. —
North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson has joined several states in filing a lawsuit against the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Jackson accused the agencies of withholding funds from North Carolina for disaster relief, emergency management, and homeland security operations.
Jackson's office claims the federal government's actions threaten the state's ability to respond quickly and protect those affected by natural disasters and other emergencies, such as Hurricane Helene.
“Our emergency management and first responder teams worked around the clock in the weeks following Hurricane Helene, and these funds were critical to their work,” said Attorney General Jeff Jackson.
