The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is a classic thriller, remade in 2009 with Denzel Washington and John Travolta. But it couldn't recapture the tension of the Joseph Sargent-directed original starring Walter Matthau as a police officer racing against time to stop a group of hijackers, led by Robert Shaw, who have taken over a New York City subway car with a daring and complicated plan.
