On October 12, Europe rolled out its new Entry/Exit System (EES) . It now automates the entry and exit registration for non-EU citizens, including U.S. and Canadian visitors. No more passport stamping, just fingerprints and a facial photograph. This applies to the borders of 29 European countries .
However, what appears to be a convenient new rule has started to become a hassle for passengers as they face hours of delays in airport lines. As it turns out, the initial rollout of the new EES has been chaotic in some of the busiest airports in Europe. The longer-than-usual queues are mainly caused by travelers' confusion about the process.
