WESTBROOK, Maine — A family from Westbrook is helping their loved ones and friends in Jamaica rebuild after Hurricane Melissa.
Last week, the Category 5 storm swept across the island, leading to severe flooding and widespread power outages.
Desrine Cameren-Gransten, who moved to Maine from Jamaica nearly 20 years ago, is collecting non-perishable items to help her family and others who lost everything.
Desrine points out toiletries, medical supplies, detergent, and non-perishable food that will be sent to her home country, Jamaica. Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm in Jamaica's history, hit last week. Desrine, who moved to Maine 18 years ago for a better life, says waiting to hear from her family has been agonizing.
