AUBURN, Ind. (WPTA) - Dawn Folsom tells 21Investigates her father, David Topp, was denied cancer treatment through the state’s Healthy Indiana Plan after his household earned around $100 too much one month this year.
Folsom says her father learned he was no longer covered by HIP just as he was about to undergo a final chemo treatment prior to surgery.
“This bureaucracy has stopped my dad from getting a lifesaving treatment,” Folsom said.
In the weeks that followed, Folsom says Topp went without medication, likely lowering his 35% chance of survival.
While Topp’s coverage has been reinstated, his family has set up a GoFundMe to help defer costs.
