ADRIAN, Mich. — The Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute in Adrian has been awarded $12 million in state funding to expand its facilities and programs aimed at training the next generation of skilled woodworkers.

The woodworking college and trade school currently serves about 24 students in its fine furniture and wood design program. The expansion will fund new classrooms, student housing and other resources to help meet growing workforce demand in Michigan’s woodworking and furniture industries.

“The impact of this program is pretty great,” said student Devin Nafziger. “The fact that you can take some people who have never made anything special and turn them into skilled woodworkers who can craft some of the finest pieces in the world is pretty incredible.”
