Tony Popovic has unveiled another squad full of surprises, handing teenage Manchester United prospect James Overy his first senior call-up for the Socceroos’ final matches of 2025.
There are 11 new faces in Popovic’s 25-man selection for the upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia - the penultimate window before he settles on his squad for next year’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Two of the inclusions have been named for the first time, with Overy by far the biggest shock.
The Perth-born defender was the youngest member of the Young Socceroos side that recently competed at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The team failed to get out of their group after winning one of three games.
