LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOX) – With winter quickly approaching, homeowners are facing a common concern regarding their pipes freezing over from the cold.
The owner of Maxwell-White Plumbing, Bill White, walked WXOW through mistakes residents tend to make during the winter and the best practices to implement before temperatures start to drop.
The most common mistake that leads to pipes freezing over is homeowners forgetting to disconnect hoses from their house’s outside water source. White recommends fully shutting off all outside faucets completely if unsure whether they work or not.
Wind can also be a major contributing factor for frozen pipes, so it is important to cover and properly insulate any openings to the outside elements.
