Ahead of Remembrance Day, a tradition of ensuring no veteran’s grave is forgotten continued in Portage la Prairie on Nov. 6 as Grade 9 PCI students placed poppies on headstones in the Field of Honour at Hillside Cemetery.
The ceremony, part of the national “No Stone Left Alone” initiative, marked its 10th anniversary in the community on Wednesday, gathering students from Portage Collegiate to recognize the sacrifice of Canada’s service members.
“It’s a great opportunity to get the students out to honour the Field of Honour here at Hillside,” said Bob Oldford, past president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #65 in Portage.
