PHOENIX — Although votes are still being counted, it has become clear which school districts are on their way to winning or losing their local funding elections across Arizona.
Here's what we know so far.
About 1/3 of funding measures failed
As of Thursday evening, 31 bonds and overrides are passing and 14 are failing statewide. In total, 36 districts had bond and override measures, with some districts having more than one on the ballot.
One difference this year compared to past elections was that districts had a landmark court ruling on their side.
In August, a superior court judge ruled the state legislature chronically underfunds two formulas intended to pay for new school buildings, repairs, and maintenance. The judge wrote the legislature's negligence violates the state constit
