PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The Federal Aviation Administration will start reducing air traffic at some of the nation’s busiest airports Friday, as air traffic control employees continue to call out sick while they are not getting paid during the ongoing government shutdown.
The Trump administration says it will cut air traffic by 10%. According to an airline official, the administration is also weighing a 4% reduction in flights, increasing by 1% each day after Friday as the shutdown continues.
Flights going in and out of 40 airports will be affected. They include all the major ones in cities like Chicago, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and New York City. Flights could also be affected at Sea-Tac and PDX.
