GRAY, Tenn., (WJHL) - Second Harvest has been distributing food to SNAP recipients for four days following the launch of their emergency SNAP Food Assistance Plan on Saturday.

The Food Assistance Plan was in response to a federal freeze on SNAP benefits following the government shutdown.

On Thursday evening, nearly 100 volunteers gathered to help hand out food and meal kits to Washington County SNAP recipients.

One SNAP user said the community effort was wonderful.

"It's great," she said. "It's really nice, it's the first time I've been to something like this."

A woman who went to the distribution to pick up meals for three women living in a home said the distributions are helpful during some people's toughest times.
