Maricopa police say they recovered the stolen money within minutes of Tuesday’s Chase Bank robbery after the suspect dropped an envelope containing the cash while being taken into custody.
According to a probable-cause statement filed Thursday in Western Pinal Justice Court, 40-year-old Cesar Sanchez was arrested at noon outside the Chase branch at 21650 N. John Wayne Parkway after handing a teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanding money.
The report says Sanchez “dropped an envelope and told officers the money was inside” as they detained him. Police later confirmed the denominations and amount matched what was taken from the bank. Authorities did not disclose those figures.
