The more Maddie Laezza runs, the easier Sunken Meadow State Park’s 5-kilometer course looks.
The Eastport-South Manor junior made Suffolk history for the second straight week as she won the Class B girls cross country championship in 18 minutes, 1.8 seconds at the Suffolk state qualifier on Thursday in Kings Park. The time shattered the Sunken Meadow course record for a Suffolk runner, which Laezza set with an 18:09.1 only 10 days earlier.
The former soccer player’s distance running hobby is putting her in the history books. Nobody is more shocked by that than Laezza.
