The Wilkes-Barre Area Wolfpack clinched their third consecutive District 2 Class 6A football championship last Friday.

They’d prefer this one doesn’t come with an asterisk like the last one.

Despite being the D2-6A champion, WBA has one more hurdle to clear to get back to the PIAA Class 6A state playoffs. That comes starting 7 p.m. Friday when the Wolfpack (7-4) host Williamsport (6-5) in the District 2/4 Class 6A subregional championship.

WBA won the D2-6A titles this season and in 2024 by virtue of being the last District 2 team standing in the subregional. But a 14-0 loss to Williamsport last season in the subregional finals sent the Millionaires and not WBA to the state bracket.
