JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — There are no words to describe what it is like to experience combat.
Deke Letso knows this firsthand.
“My MOS (military occupational specialty) was 35 Gulf. I was an imagery analyst deployed to Iraq. I spent 10 years in the army," said Letso.
After two combat deployments and an honorable discharge, Letso says he was at an all-time low.
"I self-destructed, I caused a divorce," said Letso.
He went to the Veterans Administration seeking help.
“They typed my name into the computer, they said I have no claim for PTSD. I was at rock bottom," said Letso.
While attending Red Rocks Community College, he learned about wilderness therapy. He was so inspired, he created the nonprofit Veteran Exploration Therapy.
